Sunday Night Mind Dump

By Rick Long | November 16, 2008

God was very good to us today at The Point. I sense that God doing His thing among our people in an ever-increasing way. Men and women are repenting of sin, coming to Jesus for forgiveness and committing to living the life of a disciple. What an incredible blessing it is to be part of what He is doing. I am really enjoyng preaching through Luke’s Gospel. It is so cool to see lives being transformed by the Gospel, including my own.

I announced today that we are not having any mid-week activities duing the month of December. It will be an interesting exercise. Our goal is that our people would use the time to worship as a family and get into God’s Word together. I am convinced that one of our people’s key issues is that they are far too busy. I pray that families are transformed by spending time in the Scriptures together. Our pastors will be preparing a weekly Advent Scripture guide for folks to use.

I am spending a few days in Dallas this week as part of the Acts 29 Bootcamp at the Village Church. I don’t like spendng time away from home, but I am looking forward to hanging out with other pastors. I am also completing CoachNet training in Dallas, which I plan to implement with our staff and leadership at The Point.

One of the things that annoys me about a growing church is that I don’t get to spend time with everyone who walks in the door. I want to know everyone and know their story. While it thrills me that so many new faces are at The Point, it also bugs me that I don’t (andcannot) know everyone.

Lastly, I have been going to physical therapy for a small tear in my shoulder. A few weeks ago I noticed a weird pain which got worse recently so I am doing physical therapy hoping it fixes things. I have great PT’s, but I am convinced that they secretly enjoy small amounts of torture. Pain is good…right?
