Friday, August 29th, 2008I am way stoked about launching our “Journey of Epic Faith” at The Point. This is our way of promoting the new ministry developments this fall, growing our financial giving through teaching Scripture and taking some major next steps as God grows this church.
The church website has more details about the vision that is driving this [...]
A New Kind Of Love
Sunday, April 20th, 2008The ultimate goal of building biblical community is to bring glory to God and honor Jesus. The most visible expression of this is believer’s in the local church who truly love one another. Christian love that flows from the Gospel is thoroughly missional and the most powerful evangelistic tool that we have as the church.
I [...]
Monday Morning
Monday, April 7th, 2008I love Sundays because I get to be with our people at The Point. We are so blessed with terrific people who are pursuing Jesus and GET the vision of being missional followers of Him.
We had a better crowd than I expected since it was the beginning of Spring Break. I thought we might be [...]

Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Washington will be hosting this Acts 29 Church Planting Network Boot Camp in connection with the National Resurgence Conference. Being Strategic About Being Strategic
Friday, February 8th, 2008On Sunday night, we are pulling together the key decision makers at The Point for the first of four strategic planning meetings this year. We have done this before with very strong results. I am particularly excited about these meetings for several reasons. The first is that we have a great group of leaders that [...]
Gettin’ Happy
Wednesday, January 9th, 2008Early in 2007 I mentioned a study that I had read which stated that one of the most unchurched areas of the country was actually located in a six-county area of East Kentucky. It was difficult to believe that within a two hour drive from Frankfort was that kind of an unreached people group. I [...]
The “Show Me” state shows no love for Acts 29
Sunday, December 23rd, 2007Being affiliated with both the SBC and Acts 29, I have delayed any comment on the recent controversy in Missouri concerning churches that are both Southern Baptist and Acts 29 affiliated. I have been hoping to see the MBC resolution withdrawn, but that’s not going to be the case. My brief comments are below and a Baptist [...]
Missional Church Planting In America
Monday, July 9th, 2007According to a report by Outreach Magazine and Leadership Network, Mars Hill and other ‘reformed’ churches lead the way in church planting in America. To me this is solid evidence that sound theology, strong doctrine and a centrist view of God trumps pragmatism as the key ingredients for successful church planting.
Quoting David Fairchild, pastor of Kaleo [...]
Being Missional - part 2
Tuesday, June 26th, 2007John 20:19-21
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the [...]
Being Missional - part 1
Thursday, June 21st, 2007Over the next few weeks I will be teaching and writing on the notion of being missional. I intend to answer the question of “what does a missional church look like” and more specfically, how is The Point Community Church a missional church?
The missional church is very different from a church that supports, values or participates in missions either [...]
